ITS International: Canadian Translink now offers secure bike garages with the Bikeep IoT
Canada's TransLink now provides secure bike parking to support multimodal transport at its transit stations. The initiative is delivered through Urban Racks, with Bikeep supplying the smart IoT solution that powers the secure bike garages.
Erin O'Melinn, Hub Cycling's executive director, says: "Bike theft continues to be a barrier that holds people back from cycling more often. Providing better end of trip facilities, like these bike lockers, will help people safely store their bikes and other cycling gear and shift towards adopting cycling and transit into their daily commute."
The smart locker system integrates Bikeep's IoT technology to give cyclists keyless, app-based access to secure enclosed parking at transit stations. By combining protected bike storage with public transit, TransLink is addressing one of the most common friction points in first- and last-mile commuting — the fear of bike theft discouraging riders from leaving their bicycle unattended.
The project reflects a broader trend among transit authorities investing in end-of-trip cycling infrastructure to grow ridership and reduce car dependency. Secure, tech-enabled bike parking makes cycling a more viable option for commuters who need confidence that their bike will be safe while they travel.
