🎯 Bikeep News 🎯

This time, we’d like to introduce the value our comprehensive back end delivers to our Partners and Customers.

We begin with the question: “What is a Smart City?” There are many correct answers, but we believe one that aligns with our vision is: “A smart city is a place where traditional networks and services are made more efficient through digital solutions for the benefit of its inhabitants and businesses.”

Since Bikeep is built for smart cities, here is a list of features we believe serve this purpose, along with real-life examples of how our operator portal (Console.Bikeep.com) has translated smart city ideas into tangible value.

How this saves money?

  1. Thanks to our comprehensive reporting system, urban developers can pinpoint which locations see the most usage and where new stations are needed. In the Bikeep app, users can request locations and add comments and photos. These heatmaps are forwarded to planners, providing data that serves as a key pillar in their decision‑making.
  2. The same data enables Urban Developers to make the case for further funding. Our great partners in New Zealand commissioned a comprehensive impact study on the Bikeep network’s social impact, and the results were truly astonishing. We knew cycling and Bikeep benefit society, but the figures reported by Sense Partners — based on usage and user feedback—are simply amazing (more on this soon). Unfortunately, bike parking and cycling infrastructure often become politicized, so arguments require solid data. Not that robust data would ever make us roll back investments in clearly harmful infrastructure, but that’s another topic 🙂
  3. Smart, connected infrastructure requires fewer maintenance visits. Thanks to user feedback and system ratings, Bikeep‑powered network operators immediately know when a location needs attention—and when it’s performing well and no visit is needed. Fewer “just to check” maintenance trips lower operational costs.
  4. Thanks to shared access, a single infrastructure element can serve multiple users—significantly reducing the total infrastructure needed by a city. However, the key difference lies between “good enough” and truly user-friendly solutions. Too often, we see cities launching “smart parking” initiatives with the lowest-cost provider who meets the technical specs on paper. But for everyday users, this often translates to a clunky, unintuitive portal that requires determination just to operate. And when the experience is difficult, usage drops.
  5. Users are willing to pay more for a seamless and reliable experience—allowing cities to recoup part of their investment through usage-based fees that align with real user expectations. Bikeep enables flexible monetization: cities or operators can charge per minute, offer daily, weekly, or monthly passes, or create fully customized pricing models tailored to their community. This increases revenue potential and helps recover a greater share of the initial investment.

We’ve only scratched the surface and already hit our newsletter length limit—so we’ll wrap it up here for this month. This is just the beginning of our series on the benefits of Bikeep’s digital systems, and there’s much more to come.If you’re eager to dive deeper sooner, feel free to email us at info@bikeep.com or send a message via LinkedIn. We’d be happy to walk you through the full feature set in a private demo.

New Bikeep Installations

We’ve launched a full network of cycle hubs in Southend-on-Sea, UK—a major step forward in secure urban bike infrastructure. This system includes 10 secure bike rooms, provided in collaboration with our partner Bailey Street Furniture Group, each equipped with high-quality bike racks. Access is managed through the Bikeep app, with additional peace of mind provided by integrated camera surveillance.

The hubs are open to anyone: simply download the Bikeep app, create a user profile, and pay the usage fee. The service is designed to be just as accessible for residents as it is for tourists—offering secure parking while they explore the beautiful coastal town.

For the city, it was essential that users could register, pay, and start using the system instantly and independently. We’re proud to say that’s exactly what Bikeep has delivered. After a successful pilot phase, the municipality is already considering expansion.

Trend we are noticing

University campuses are starting to invest into smart bike/e-scooter parking:

Bikeep solutions are already in use on over 10 campuses—and interest continues to grow. As larger e-scooters and e-bikes become more common, universities and other urban developers are increasingly recognizing the need for secure infrastructure. Not only to prevent theft, but also to manage electric vehicle charging in a structured and controlled way.

Few takaways:

  • Electric bikes (e-bikes) are gaining massive popularity as a sustainable and cost-effective mode of transportation, especially in urban areas
  • Looking to the future, we can expect e-bike prices to continue dropping as technology improves and market demand increases.
  • With the global push toward sustainability, governments are likely to increase financial support for e-bike programs. As governments aim to reduce carbon emissions, we could see more subsidies, tax breaks, and rebates introduced.
