Secure bike parking at the Kolsås bike hotel in Bærum

Kolsås station in Bærum, just west of Oslo, has a bike hotel with 22 Bikeep smart bike parking docks. Bærum Municipality owns it and Bikeep's Norwegian partner Baia Mobility runs it. Parking is free.

From open racks to a secure bike hotel

Kolsås is a busy commuter hub at the end of the metro line. Commuters used to have only regular racks there, and bike crime was a real problem. The municipality responded by setting up a bike hotel and stepping up its security, with a more reliable access and locking system from Bikeep. Riders took to it quickly and gave a lot of good feedback.

How it works

• No lock needed. A locking bar closes over the bike frame.
• App or card. Riders unlock with the Bikeep app or a contactless card.
• Alarm on every dock. Tampering with a locked bike sets off an alarm.
• Out of the weather. The bike hotel keeps bikes dry and out of sight from the street.
• Free to use. Commuters pay nothing to park, however long the day.

In daily use

Since October 2022, riders at Kolsås have logged about 4,700 parkings, and more than 300 different people have used it, many of them on their way to the metro or a bus.
