Free smart bike lockers at Tallinn's public transport stops

In early April 2021 the City of Tallinn opened free Bikeep smart bike lockers at three public transport stops, including Pirita bus stop on Merivälja tee and Tallinn-Väike railway station. The aim was simple. Riders cycle to the stop, lock their bike away safely, and carry on by bus or train.

Built for bike and bus together

The city wanted to make it easier to combine cycling with public transport and to keep cars out of the centre.

The stops were chosen on purpose. Good bike parking at a station draws people who would otherwise drive there and add to the queues at drop-off time.

How the lockers work

• Travel card or app. Riders open a locker with their Tallinn public transport card or the Bikeep app.
• Free. The lockers are free, like Tallinn's other public Bikeep stations.
• Long-term storage. A fully enclosed locker keeps the bike dry and safe for a whole working day or longer.
• Room for gear. There is space for a helmet or bag alongside the bike.
