Secure bike parking and e-bike charging at Roskilde stations

Roskilde Municipality has secure Bikeep bike parking with e-bike charging at three of its railway stations, Roskilde, Trekroner and Viby. Bikeep's Danish partner Inventarrum supplied the stations, alongside new covered parking for cargo bikes and regular bikes.

Why the municipality acted

Bikes and cargo bikes are a popular way to get to the station in Roskilde, but bikes left on the station racks were often stolen. The municipality wanted commuters to be able to ride to the train without worrying about what they would find when they came back.

"We have established secure bike racks and cargo bike parking to encourage people to cycle to and from the three stations." Claus Larsen, chairman of the Planning and Engineering Committee

What riders get

• A locked dock. A strong locking bar holds the bike frame.
• E-bike charging. Riders can charge the battery while they are away.
• Any card as the key. The docks open with a travel card, payment card or employee card, or with the Bikeep app.

Mayor Tomas Breddam tested the charging and locking with his own e-bike at the opening, using his travel card as the key.

Three stations, in daily use

• Roskilde station. 8 docks on Ny Østergade.
• Trekroner station. 8 docks by Trekroner Centervej.
• Viby station. 10 docks in Viby Sjælland.

Together the three stations have logged more than 11,000 parkings by more than 200 different riders, many of whom use them as part of their daily trip.
