Langley, BC: Urban Racks is proud to have implemented Canada's first ever, on-demand, Bikeep app-activated bike parking managed solution. Metro Vancouver cyclists can now access app-activated bike parking infrastructure at several TransLink stations and bus exchanges. In 2020, Urban Racks was awarded a multi-year contract to design and implement this innovative bike parking solution. At the core of Urban Racks' smart solution is Bikeep IoT technology, bringing a new era of bike parking infrastructure to life.
Pay-as-you-go and subscription-based bike parking is now available at TransLink's Moody Centre, 22nd Street, and VCC-Clark Stations, as well as the Carvolth Exchange. Brighouse Station and Lonsdale Exchange are the next locations to be added during the pilot phase. The bike lockers run on solar energy, helping to reduce barriers that prevent commuters from cycling more often. In addition to app-activated bike lockers, app-activated bike docks are also available free of charge for up to 24 hours.
When it comes to increasing commuter cycling, safe roads, travel distance, and easy access to bike parking are the greatest barriers to overcome. Municipalities are doing their part by increasing the focus on rider safety through the installation of protected bike lanes and supporting infrastructure. With the staggering increase in e-bike sales, travel distance is becoming less of a concern. App-activated bike parking further addresses the equation by providing commuters with more convenient and flexible, on-demand access — enabling anyone to transition their commute from driving to a combination of cycling and public transit.
Urban Racks is proud to be part of this movement, working towards a greener, more sustainable future.
