10 fully-connected smart bike rooms across Southend-on-Sea, bringing IoT-powered access management and flexible subscriptions to municipal cycling infrastructure.

01

The Challenge

Southend-on-Sea City Council wanted to encourage sustainable travel and strengthen cycling culture, but existing bike parking infrastructure lacked security and convenience. Traditional bike rooms relied on physical keys or access cards, offered no remote management visibility, and their inflexibility discouraged potential cyclists from using them.
02

The Solution

Working with Cyclepods and Bailey Street Furniture Group, Bikeep deployed its IoT-powered smart access management platform across 10 municipal bike rooms. The system features smart door controllers with IoT-enabled locks, QR code access requiring no app download, flexible self-service subscriptions (daily, weekly, monthly), full remote management from a single dashboard, 4G connectivity with over-the-air updates, and retrofit-friendly integration with existing Cyclepods bike shelters.

The Results

  • 10 fully-connected smart bike rooms across the city
  • 13+ smart door controllers deployed including 4 at Victoria Plaza
  • QR code access — instant smartphone access, no app download required
  • Flexible subscriptions: daily, weekly, and monthly passes
  • Full remote management and monitoring from one dashboard
  • Regular cyclists and tourists have embraced the shelters with enthusiasm
