The first installation of Bikeep in Wallonia
On the initiative of the Alliance Center BW business association (and with the help of the City of Ottignies and the LLN Science Park), a new installation of Bikeep has just been inaugurated on September 16, 2019. Its cost, excluding installation, of nearly 11,000 euros was funded under the call for projects of the Walloon Region 'Sustainable Mobility and Business'.
The installation marks a significant milestone as the first Bikeep smart bike parking station deployed in the Wallonia region of Belgium. Located at the LLN Science Park — a major employment and research hub in the Louvain-la-Neuve area — the station provides employees, visitors, and commuters with secure, monitored bike parking, helping to encourage sustainable travel to and from the site.
Bikeep's smart stations combine sturdy physical locking infrastructure with digital access and monitoring capabilities, giving users confidence that their bikes are safe while providing site operators with real-time data on usage. This kind of solution is particularly well-suited to business parks and innovation campuses, where improving cycling uptake can significantly reduce car traffic and support broader sustainability goals.
The project reflects a growing commitment across the Walloon Region to invest in active mobility infrastructure. By funding the installation through the 'Sustainable Mobility and Business' call for projects, the regional government is actively supporting employers and business associations in making cycling a more practical and attractive option for daily commuters.
